Angola Murdoch - Artistic Director

Angola Murdoch is founder and Artistic Director of Lookup Theatre. Angola has been working in the theatre industry for over twelve years, on and off the stage. She produced "Capoeira, Capuera," a theatrical education on the Brazilian art form. It played to 10 sold out audiences and got rave revues. Paula Citron from the Globe and Mail writes, "The packed house of a mostly younger demographic was wildly enthusiastic in its response, and with good reason. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and informative show." Angola went on to produce cabarets and full length theatricals. As well as producing her own work Angola has worked as a producer, stage manager and technical director for many theatre companies, including technical director at The Second City Toronto (6 years), Martin Short, Volcano Theatre, OverAll Dance, Andrea Nann Dream Walker, Driftwood Theatre, and The Banff Centre for the Arts.

Angola's childhood was spent mostly upside down, dancing and doing gymnastics while growing up on her family farm in Grey County, Ontario. She has trained and performed in a multitude of movement disciplines including ten years of capoeira, aerial dance and hand balancing. Angola is an international performer. Some highlights include: Cirque Pacifica (Maui), Waiting for Calder (Art Gallery of Ontario), Planet Power (HarbourKids), Kuten (Grass Roots Festival, Ithaca NY), Mercury Descent (LuminaTo Festival), and a 4-month tour with Caravan Stage Company (Europe).
