Grey/Bruce County Circus Youth Project

With the help from Canada Council for the Arts, Theatre Ontario, and Ontario Arts Council Lookup Theatre created a contemporary circus program with youth in Grey/Bruce County. Professional artists trained the participants and helped them develop and perform a circus show. Performance venues included the Owen Sound Buskerfest August 13th 2011 and Owen Sound Summerfolk August 20 and 21 2011. The program took place at Owen Sound Kelso Beach.

The Grey/Bruce County Youth circus troupe will be touring their new show "Running Out" in the summer of 2012 using themes like water conservation and local food. It's a must have at your summer festival.

Minds Matter

With help from The Toronto Arts Council this Contemporary Circus Program uses a youth engagement strategy to develop, explore and teach theatre and circus skills to young people in the mental health community.

The program started in November 2010 and is a collaboration with experienced professional circus mentors from Lookup Theatre, and the youth and staff from Talk To Youth Lately . New skills were developed by the youth participants which resulted in a full-length show in May 2011. The participants will than tour the show in high schools educating students on anti stigma and the mental health community.

The youth discovered with dedication, hard work and teamwork that you can achieve many goals. Social circus enables youth to reach their full potential. The training program is set up built on trust, risk taking and excitement. Not only are the participants developing life skills, connecting with others and performing skills they are also doing physical conditioning and living healthier lives.
