Social Programs
Lookup Theatre engages in a number of social initiatives, including a free Community Circus, a Therapeutic Clowning program and a Social Circus program.

Mental Health Social Circus

Since 2009, this social circus initiative has been supporting young people facing mental health challenges. Combining the structure of a support group with the creativity of a circus troupe, participants meet twice a week to foster recovery, develop circus skills, and work toward creating performances that raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health. Through the power of circus arts, the program has reached over 20,000 individuals with its anti-stigma message. Our Social Circus for Mental Health program is made possible through the generous support of the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, ECHO Foundation, FRAYME, Laidlaw Foundation, and Cirque Hors Piste, Crikaskina, Cirque du Soleil.

Community Circus

Since 2010, Lookup Theatre has been offering a free contemporary circus program for youth in Grey/Bruce County each summer. Professional circus and theatre artists mentor participants, helping them develop and perform a unique circus show for the local community. This program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Theatre Ontario, Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Community Foundation of Grey Bruce, and The Leflar Foundation.See other shows we have created here.
