Social Programs
Lookup Theatre engages in a number of social initiatives, including Community Circus, Therapeutic Clowning and Mental Health Social Circus programs.
Mental Health Social Circus
Our social circus for mental health program is made possible with the support of the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, ECHO Foundation, FRAYME, Laidlaw Foundation and Cirque du Monde. This social circus initiative is intended for young people ages 16-30 who are experiencing mental health challenges. Part support group, part circus troupe, the troupe meets weekly to further participant recovery and learn circus skills with the outcome of creating and performing shows that promote awareness of and reduce stigma around mental health. Through circus arts, this program has shared its anti-stigma message with over 20,000 people.

Community Circus
With the support from The Canada Council for the Arts, Theatre Ontario, Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Community Foundation of Grey Bruce and The Leflar Foundation, Lookup Theatre has created a contemporary circus program with youth in Grey/Bruce County each summer since 2011. Professional circus and theatre artists train the participants and help them develop and perform a circus show for the community.
